With Peru's mighty Cordillera Blanca on the doorstop of the Alpamayo workshop, heading out to try new prototypes 'in the field' couldnt be easier (or more fun!). On this occasion Paul teams up with Dan Mattison of 'Fat Cycling' fame to test out a proto rear support system we'd been designing, on a two day bikepacking blast high into the mountains to Laguna Rajucolta. A challenging off-road route that pushes both body and gear to their limits, but with incredible scenery on tap to make it all worthwhile...

I'll let the photos do the talking (credit to Dan for a number of them).

The slow grind up the valley, with the 4000m+ altitude taking it's toll...

After a sweaty ride up, we we reach  the head of the valley we're rewarded with killer vews of the hulking 6300ish m Huantsan. Laguna Rajucolta, our destination for the day, is the glacial lake which sits at it's base.

Time to pitch camp, layer up and get some tea on the go...

The following day, not wanting to backtrack, we left Quebrada Rajucolta via this inviting little trail with a view of linking up with the next valley along.

The rideable singeltrack was relatively short lived though and soon a good old hike-a-bike commenced…

Brief flashbacks of Sam and I's hike-a-bike mission crossing from Chile to Argentina earlier in the year...

Once up on the ridge we were greeted by more stunning views across the Blanca

Before finding this handy trail to blast down the other side and back to town for a Chinese.... All in all a cracking little trip in great company.
